Practice Services

The practice offers the full range of General Practice medical services, including:-
Family Planning Advice Management of chronic diseases including asthma, diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, epilepsy, mental health issues, and many others:

  • Health promotion and screening
  • Childhood
  • Minor surgery
  • Travel vaccinations
  • Antenatal care
  • Postnatal care
  • Elderly care

Information and links to social services and other organizations that provide help to the local community.
In addition, we offer a number of enhanced services, that are available at Blackwood Health Centre:-

  • Blood Testing Service (phlebotomy)
  • ECGs (heart tracing)
  • Spirometry testing for respiratory disease
  • Health checks testing for 40-75 year olds – where we assess your risk of heart disease and give you targeted advice ands help to reduce this risk.
  • Enhanced vaccination services

And a wide range of other services – ask for more information at reception or see posters in the surgery!

We can also complete medical reports and other reports for driving, diving, flying, occupational and recreational reasons, passport forms (you must have been known to the GP for at least 2 years for this) ask at reception for more details.

Plus, if there is something specific that your would like us to offer then please leave a note for Dr Thornett so we can explore whether we can add that service to our list.

Anticoagulation Services

Blackwood patients can now use a service provide by Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust at a number of surgeries in our area (see below for details), including Blackwood Health Centre. Following the tests you will receive the results at the clinic. Dr Thornett will receive an electronic report following your visit.

You can visit any of the clinics below, to book an appointment call 0121 507 5176/3615. If you are unable to attend the clinic, please call the number listed to cancel and rearrange your appointment.

Please take your yellow book with you to the appointment.

The service is available on:

Monday am: At the Apollo Surgery at 619 Kings Road, Great Barr, B44 9HW between 9:45 and 10:30.

Monday pm: At the Tower Hill Surgery at 25 Tower Hill, Great Barr, B42 1LG between 1:30 and 3:15.

Tuesday: At the Jockey Road Medical Centre, 519 Jockey Road, Sutton Coldfield, B73 5DF or at Dove Medical Centre at 60 Doverdale Road, Erdington, B23 5DD between 11:00 and 11:30.

Wednesday: At the Ley Hill Surgery, 228 Lichfield Road, Four Oaks, B74 2UE or at the Sutton Park Surgery 34 Chester Road North, Sutton Coldfield, B73 6SP between 9:30 and 10:30. Services are also available at the Castle Vale Primary Care Centre, 70 Tangmere Drive, Castle Vale, B35 7QX between 11:30 and 12:30.

Thursday am: At the College Road Surgery, 352 College Road, Kingstanding, B44 0HH between 9:45 and 10:30 and at the Ashfield Surgery, 8 Warmley Road, Sutton Coldfield, B76 1QN between 11:30and 12:30. The service is also available at Blackwood Health Centre between 9:00 and 10:00, every two weeks.

Thursday pm: At the Hawthorns Surgery, 331 Birmingham Road, Sutton Coldfield B72 1DL between 2:30 and 3:30.
